Prof. G.J.V.JAGANNADHA RAJU

Born on January 4, 1932, Prof. G.J.V.Jagannadha Raju had an illustrious academic career, having acquired Bachelor of Science (Hons.) and Master of Science Degrees in Chemical Technology of Andhra University by 1954 and two Doctorate Degrees in Chemical Engineering/Technology by 1960. His first Doctorate degree, ‘D.Sc.’ from Andhra University brought him laurels as the first to apply the technique of Fluidization to Electro-Chemical Reactions. The second doctorate “Dr. Techn.” from Technical University, Budapest was conferred on him for the research work carried out on “Studies on Surface Treatment and Corrosion of Aluminum and Aluminum Alloys” in the Aluminum Research Laboratories, Budapest. He was the First Foreigner to be conferred the Doctorate Degree of Budapest Technical University in 1960.

He guided several candidates for award of Ph.D. degrees and published over hundred papers in National and International Journals of repute and many of them are extensively cited in Books/Journals. He was Principal Investigator for several sponsored research projects.

He was the recipient of the Herdillia Award for Excellence in basic research in Chemical Engineering, Government of Andhra Pradesh State Award for meritorious teachers, Systems Society of India - Prof. Subbayyan Gold Medal for his contribution to the field of Chemical Engineering/Technology and for development and quality improvement in technical education in the country. He was awarded the Honoris Causa ‘D.Sc.’ Degree of Nagarjuna University.

He had over 50 years of distinguished professional career. He served as a member of faculty of Andhra University since 1954, working in different capacities including Professor, Head of the Department, Chairman Faculty and Rector till 1986. He was Vice-Chancellor of Nagarjuna University from 1986 to 1988 and first chairman of A.P. State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) from 1988 to 1991. He also served as the chairman of the APSCHE for a second term from 1995 to 1997. He was appointed as first chairman National Board of Accreditation of AICTE.

He had been consultant for several industrial Organizations including Defense establishments.

He is Life Fellow of Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, Fellow Society of Advancement of Electro Chemical Science and Technology, Life Member of Indian Society for Technical Education. He had been President, Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, Chairman, Electro-Plating & Metal Finishing Group (SAEST), Vice-President, Andhra Pradesh Academy of Sciences, National Director of Asia Pacific Confederation of Chemical Engineering. He participated in several International conferences including World Congress of Chemical Engineering, Asia Pacific Confederation of Chemical Engineering and Chaired Technical Sessions.

He served as member of several National bodies such as National Assessment and Accreditation Council (UGC), Member UGC – Committee of Accreditation of Tests, Undergraduate Board of MHRD (Govt. of India), Technology panel UGC, Executive Council, AICTE. He was also member of Boards of Management and academic bodies of several educational institutions, Member Board of Governors Regional Engineering Colleges (Srinagar, Suratkal, Trichinapalli and Warangal), Visitor’s (President of India) nominee for selection of Faculty of Delhi University, Governor’s nominee for the court of Judavpur University, UGC nominee on advisory committee for centre of excellence UGCT, Bombay.

He has been the Chancellor of Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Viswa Maha Vidyalaya University (Deemed to be University), Kanchipuram (Since 1996).
 


PROF. R. SUBBAYYAN

Prof. R. Subbayyan born on June 8, 1925 is a renowned personality in the academic world, and he is regarded as one of the doyens of technical education in the State. Prof. R. Subbayyan has a remarkable and distinguished academic record. He has the privilege of obtaining degrees from institutions of high repute; B.A. (Hons.) (Maths) from Madras University in 1947; MSc. from Andhra University in 1950; DIISc from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 1953; MS from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA in 1957 and Ph.D. from Madras University. He was also a USAID Scholar at University of Wisconsin for Post Doctoral Research in 1965-66. He has specialized in Electrical Machines, Power Systems and Control Systems.

Prof. Subbayyan's illustrious academic career started as a Senior Lecturer at PSG College of Technology in 1953. His technical acumen and unflinching determination enabled him to progress in a rapid and steady manner. His academic achievements and his flair for administration made him a natural choice for the post of Principal, PSG College of Technology in 1970.

His role as Principal was phenomenal. His foresight and innovative ventures enabled the instituion to grow in leaps and bounds and to become one of the top ten institutions in the country.

Prof. Subbayyan is endowed with an excellent aptitude for research and he has made commendable contributions in the field of research. He has guided several candidates for award of Ph.D and M.Tech. Degrees. He has to his credit many CSIR sponsored research projects which were successfully completed.

As the first Vice Chancellor of Bharathiar University, Prof. Subbayyan's pioneering role in the establishment and development of various avenues is colossal. He was instrumental in acquiring 1000 Acres of land for the University. He started many innovative paramedical courses and innovative job oriented vociational courses in Arts and Science Colleges for the first time.

Prof. Subbayyan was Executive Committee Member of AICTE from 1994-97 and Member of State Level Committee (1994-97) and Central Task Force of AICTE (1994-97) after formation of AICTE. Before that he was a member of Government of India - PG Committees and member of Southern Regional Committee for more than 25 years. He served as a member of Vice-Chancellor search committee of many universities.

He was consultant to many Industries and several Industry sponsored research projects were successfully carried out under his guidance. He has more than 50 technical research papers published in Technical Journals and Conferences/Seminars, both at National and International level.

Prof. Subbayyan is a recipient of many Awards for his outstanding academic achievements like : First recipient of the National Systems Award, Eka Kappa Nu Award (USA), Tau Beta PI Award (USA), Sigma Xi (USA) Award and receipient of Institution of Engineers, India Sir M. Visvesvaraya Award for distinctions, awards and life time contributions to the Engineering Fraternity and Education at the National and International Level, 2006.

He is a member of many Professional Societies - India and Foreign. He was a fellow of Institutions of Engineers and Chartered Engineer of Institution of Engineers India; Senior Member of the Institution of Electrical & Electronics Engineers, USA; Founder President-System Society of India, Member-Computer Society of India. He was a member of academic councils of many universities like Madurai, Madras, Kerala, Andhra, IIT (Madras), Bangalore and Mysore. Fellow of Tamil Nadu Academy of Sciences. He was a President of Combature Loca Centre of Institution & Engineers India during 1974-76, Chairman of the Tamil Nadu State Centre (1982-84) and a past Council Member of the Institution of Engineers for 4 years.

He is found Life Member of ISTE and served it in various capacities. He also conducted many summer/winter schools at PSG College of Technology sponsored by ISTE.
 


Prof. DEVI SINGH

Dr. Devi Singh assumed charge as Director, Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow in August, 2003. Before joining IIM, Lucknow, he was Director of Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon for about four years. He is a well-known Professor in the area of International Finance & Management. During his tenure, MDI was one of the fastest growing Business Schools in India and had been consistently ranked among the top 5 B-Schools in the country.

Before joining MDI, Dr. Singh was a Visiting Full Professor at the Faculty of Management, McGill University, Canada for five years. He had been a UNDP Fellow on International Management Education. He had been a Visiting Faculty to the International Centre for Public Enterprises, Slovenia. He is an alumnus Fellow of the Institute of World Affairs, Connecticut. He has taught at leading Business Schools in India and Abroad.

Dr. Singh has published several articles and presented papers at various national/international seminars. He is author of Three books in Finance and Management. Has been Consultant to leading Public & Private Sector and multinational organizations in India.

He has been on several Committees of Government of India, All India Council for Technical Education, PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry (PHDCCI), Standing Committee on Public Enterprises (SCOPE) and All India Management Association (AIMA). He has been a member of Boards/Academic Councils of Indian Institute of Management, Calicut, Narse Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai, Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi and Jamia Hamdard University. He is also on the Board of Governors of a few leading Indian companies.

He received the Ishan National Award for ‘Best Director’ of a Business School in 1999. He has recently served as the Member-Secretary of the National Committee on ‘Developing Policy Perspectives for Management Education in India’ constituted by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India.

Dr Singh holds a Ph.D. in International Finance from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
 


PROF. RANJIT SINGH

Dr. Ranjit Singh is presently working as Director, Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology, New Delhi. Dr. Singh was born on April 24, 1955 in a small village in Rewari Dist., Haryana. He obtained his B.Sc. Engineering (Mechanical) from Kurukshetra University in 1978, M.Tech. from IIT Delhi in 1980 and Ph.D. from University of Rajasthan, Jaipur in 1986.

Dr. Ranjit Singh has wide experience in teaching and administration of Engineering Colleges. He is known as a Institution builder. He raised two Government Engineering Colleges from Scratches. At MREC Jaipur where he joined in April, 1981, he set up Design Centre under the UK REC Project. At MNIT, Jaipur he had been Warden, Chief Proctor and Chairman of various internal management committees. He left MNIT Jaipur in November 2001 to join as Principal Engineering College, Bikaner. His efforts created opportunities of resources generation and thus making the college financial self sustained. He joined as Director-Principal, C.R. State College of Engineering, Murthal, Haryana in April 2003. He started new B.E. Courses in Bio-Technology, Bio-informatics, MBA and two M.Tech. courses in Product Design and Development in the College. While at C.R. State College of Engineering, Murthal, Dr. Singh also held additional charge the another Government College, CDM Engineering College, Sirsa as founder Principal. He joined as Director, Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology, New Delhi on January 2, 2004. He has very ambitious plan for making this premier Institute a world class knowledge enterprises which not only produce world class job seekers, but also world class job providers. To begin with, he intends to start an entrepreneurship centre which will focus on sensitizing UG students towards entrepreneurship. To increase the intake in existing branches and start a MBA programme are the other current projects he is involved in at NSIT. He wishes to convert it into a knowledge enterprise which would play an important role in the development of Delhi region.

Dr. Singh has published about 20 research papers, completed 6 sponsored research projects and guided 6 Ph.D students (2 already awarded and remaining 4 in the process of submission). He has attended a number of national and international conferences and visited many countries including UK, Signgapore, China, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Kenya. He is a member/Chairman of expert committees of AICTE, Delhi; DST, University of Rajasthan, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, MDU Rohtak and member Board of Governors of a number of Institutions. He is also member of various professional bodies like ISTE, Institution of Engineers (India) and Indian Society of Mechanical Engineers, New Delhi. He believes that proper development of Engineering talents will make India a developed Nation in the 21st Century.
